KIDS WILL GET A GREAT ECO-EDUCATION WHILE HAVING FUN AT HALTON ECO FESTIVAL

“Kids will really enjoy playing in our eco fun area,” said Stephen Dankowich, the executive director of the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights and coordinator of Halton Eco Festival to be held on Saturday, April 17 from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, April 18 from 11 am to 4 pm at the Glen Abbey Community Centre on Third Line in Oakville.
“This year, children will experience an interesting variety of eco friendly kid’s activities that will contribute to increasing their awareness about the importance of the natural environment. Under the direction of Principal Sandrine Lescure of Oakville’s Trafalgar Ridge Montessori School, children will be kept fully engaged with eco crafts, games and puzzles, story-telling, face-painting and a fun play area,” stated Mr. Dankowich.
“Children respond well to environmental issues and concerns and eagerly suggest solutions. At Trafalgar Ridge Montessori School, we believe in educating the child from a young age to care for and appreciate their natural environment as it subsequently becomes instilled in their way of thinking. It has been our experience that the students often are the ones that educate their parents on caring for our precious planet Earth. It is our pleasure to outreach to children in the community and we look forward to providing children twelve years of age and under with a fun eco-friendly experience at the Halton Eco Festival,” remarked Ms. Lescure.
“We strongly support environmental awareness. And, we really appreciate the work of the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights; we also have participated in their annual earth week clean up every year since 2001,” she added.
"A team of student volunteers from the thirty-one year old, national organization called Katimavik will assist the kids in the various activities,” reported Mr. Dankowich. “These adventurous young adults with Katimavik are from communities across Canada. We are sure that they will later share their stories about our eco festival with people in their towns and cities and hopefully this will inspire the creation of even more annual environmental fairs in Canada. We certainly need more educational environmental events everywhere in this country,” added the coordinator of the Halton Eco Festival.
Themed environmental areas include automotive, education, energy, food, government, health and wellness, home and garden, ideas and action, natural products, nature, politics, reduce-reuse-recycle, and smart growth.
