“Volunteers are needed to assist with our two big upcoming annual environmental projects,” remarked Stephen Dankowich, executive director of the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights.

“Students can complete their required forty hours of volunteer service with our organization,” said Mr. Dankowich.

“If you are interested, we look forward to seeing you at a meeting for volunteers on Thursday, March 4 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. The meeting will take place in the program room on the second floor of the Central Public Library which is located in downtown Oakville at the corner of Lakeshore and Navy,” he stated.

eco-lady“Our tenth annual Halton Eco Festival will take place on Saturday, April 17 from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday, April 18 from 11 am to 4 pm at the Glen Abbey Rec Centre on Third Line in Oakville. Volunteers are needed to help promote the event before it happens and other volunteers are needed to help with a variety of interesting assignments on that weekend. The Halton Eco Festival features 80 green exhibitors, 18 educational workshops, a supervised kid’s eco fun area, and a silent auction. Please refer to www.haltonecofest.ca for more details about this event,” he confirmed.

“Also, we are looking for people who want to help with our annual Earth Week Clean Up taking place on Saturday, April 24 from 9 am to noon; you can clean up at one of our thirty designated nature sites or you can organize a clean up in your own neighbourhood,” he noted.

“We are the local sponsor of Earth Day Canada and we organize the largest annual Earth Week Clean Up in Canada. Last year, there were 2,000 volunteers who cleaned up thirty-four Oakville nature sites and removed 7,070 kilograms of garbage from these beautiful green spaces. Eleven schools and 2,500 students also participated. For more details about the upcoming 19th annual Earth Week Clean Up, please visit www.oakvillepeacecentre.org,” he added.
